Paper - Plastic - Corrugated - Glass - Metal - Fiberglass Shredding Applications: Volume Feeding Better Bale Quality Improved Compaction Reclamation from Defects Energy Recovery Improved Scrap Manageability For larger object compaction, Volume Feeding works best as a two-stage process. The stage-one shredding is 'pierce-and-tear' which produces more uniform pieces suitable for a second machine, such as a hammermill or granulator. This two-stage approach results in longer machine life and lower maintenance when compared to a single-stage process. Better Bale Quality is achieved through the shredding of folding carton scrap material, newspapers, corrugated boxes, books and magazines, fiber cores, slabs of paper and foam. Shredding these materials increases throughput, and makes better, heavier bales. As a result, baler life is extended. The floor sweep unit (shown right) simplifies floor-level scrap loading. Improved Compaction will reduce haul-away costs by up to 75%. It pays to reduce the size of bulky materials such as pallets, crates, boxes and skids so that more will fit in a container. When properly designed, the shredder system will save on the labor costs associated with manually breaking down crates and boxes because it happens automatically. The Shredder can act as the Reclamation from Defects department. In cases where damaged or defective packaging occurs, a shredder can open the package and help reclaim its contents for repackaging. Sugar, soap, fertilizer and flour are among the products that could be separated from their damaged packaging to be reclaimed. Energy Recovery from shredding and burning plant waste to generate steam or heat, is an effective method for waste disposal. Also, the cost of hauling away waste is eliminated. Improved Scrap Manageability is desired when scrap must be mechanically or pneumatically conveyed over 100 feet, or perhaps to an adjacent building for baling. Shredding materials such as folding cartons, newspapers, corrugated boxes, books and magazines, fiber cores, slabs of paper and foam makes conveying much more efficient.
